Even more 2013 Honda Accord Spyshots (Exterior and Interior)

Our spy shooters have once again snared the 2013 Honda Accord in their sights. Though we’ve seen the car’s exterior several times by now, our photographers managed to get a look inside the new Honda midsizer this time.

We’ve already seen the sedan with its roofline exposed, spied the plug-in hybrid version, and even caught a Honda Accord coupe out testing. This time, however, our spy shooter finally got a peek inside the car.

The first interesting item to notice is the manual transmission used in this prototype. Although the Accord has long offered the option to shift for yourself, we’re pleased to see visual confirmation that option will continue in the latest generation of Honda’s midsize sedan and coupe. As is the case now, though, manual-transmission Accords will likely be extremely rare.

The next change is an interior revamp, starting with a new instrument cluster matching that of the 2012 Honda CR-V. Instead of the old Accord’s pair of dials, the 2013 model gets a large central speedometer, with a digital display in its center. At the left is a smaller analog tachometer, while the right-hand edge of the cluster appears to hold a fuel gauge. In addition, Honda has thankfully simplified and tidied the new car’s center stack. As on the 2012 CR-V, air vents now flank the audio and climate controls, which are arranged in tidy straight rows. The current Accord’s center stack has a glut of buttons arranged on a convex piece of plastic.

The important piece of news for audiophiles is the presence of a new infotainment system that has Pandora internet radio capability. A larger screen is mounted atop the dashboard clearly shows that Honda’s test drivers were enjoying the Celine Dion station on Pandora. Small icons at the top of the display indicate that, as is the case on almost any new car, Bluetooth connectivity is included.

The 2013 Honda Accord bowed in concept form at the Detroit auto show in January. The automaker has so far divulged that the base engine in the 2013 Accord will be a revised 2.4-liter inline-four with 181 hp, which can be mated to a continuously variable or six-speed manual transmission. An optional 3.5-liter V-6 will produce at least 271 hp, and can be coupled to a six-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission.

The 2012 Honda Accord is offered with two engines: a 177-hp, 2.4-liter inline-four that could be mated to either a five-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission; and a 271-hp, 3.5-liter V-6 available with a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic.

The 2013 Honda Accord is expected to launch this fall.

Honda Brio diesel caught testing yet again

This is not for the North American market....

Honda unveiled a new mass market 1.6-litre diesel i-DTEC EarthDreams engine at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, and it was very clear that diesel powered Honda cars won’t take too long to reach Indian market. Also, Honda had confirmed that they will launch the Brio diesel by Diwali this year and since then lot of test lues have been spotted around their plant near Delhi, not looking very different but with distinctive diesel clatter.

This time our friends at Team-BHP caught the test mule, who report about the eminent diesel noise from the car. They also suggest that this tiny diesel is also sprightly, as the driver tried to get away when followed. So, the Brio diesel will now get even smaller engine based of the 1.6-litre EarthDream, just that exact details are yet to be know. Honda will need a engine smaller than 1.5-litre so that they will be eligible for the subsidy. Plus the engine will need to have sufficient power, as it will also power the Jazz later, just like the 1.2-litre petrol doing the duty.]

Honda is entering diesel market in India with their smallest car and is clearing looking at the number game. The rumours suggest that the City will be the next Honda model to get a diesel – which might get bigger displacement mill, probably same as the one unveiled at Geneva. The last among mass production models will be the Jazz diesel.

The Honda City is the highest selling petrol sedan in its segment; even the Brio san diesel is doing quite well in the entry-level hatchback segment. Honda is known for refinement and reliability in India and is one of the most respected brands in mass market. Addition of diesel to their range will certainly increase their numbers and is going to be a threat to all their competitors.

Inside Line: 2013 Honda Accord Interior Spyshot with Info

Just the Facts:

• The redesigned 2013 Honda Accord will arrive this fall.
• Three drivetrains will be offered, including a plug-in hybrid option.
• Its exterior dimensions will be reduced slightly compared to the current model.
  

DEATH VALLEY, California — Prototypes of the 2013 Honda Accord were caught during hot-weather testing prior to the car's anticipated launch this fall. Although still covered in heavy camouflage, the sedan and coupe test mules clearly showed that the design of the new Honda Accord won't stray far from the concept shown earlier this year.

Notable design elements that can be seen here include a sharply defined character line on the side of the car that plunges from the rear door handle down to the front wheel opening, rectangular headlights with a row of LED marker lights across the bottom and a sizable front airdam opening below the trapezoidal grille.

A quick peek through the window also revealed a few details about the interior design of the 2013 Honda Accord. The gauge cluster looks like it will switch to a large centrally located speedometer flanked by auxiliary gauges on each side. The Accord will continue to use a large in-dash monitor, but the control unit below will switch to a central control knob design similar to Audi's MMI layout. This should reduce some of the button clutter that plagued the design of the dashboard in the current model.

Honda has already announced that the Accord will offer three different drivetrains. The base four-cylinder will be a new direct-injected, DOHC engine that will deliver 181 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque. It will be paired with either a six-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

A 3.5-liter V6 will be optional, but Honda has only said that it will be more powerful and more efficient than the current engine. In early 2013, a plug-in hybrid variant will be added to the model lineup. It will combine a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a 120kW electric motor powered by lithium-ion batteries. Honda says it will be capable of travelling up to 10 miles in pure electric mode at speeds up to 62 mph.

Inside Line says: Judging by the looks of these prototypes, Honda will continue to play it right down the middle when it comes to the design of its midsize coupe and sedan.

Spied: 2013 Honda Accord Plug-In Hybrid Spotted in California

Nice, less and less camo....

Last week we showed you spy photos of the next-generation 2013 Honda Accord, caught out in the wild, but heavily camouflaged from the windows down. That left us speculating as to what exactly Honda had in store for its new Accord sedan.

We may have caught a glimpse over the weekend near Honda’s Torrance, California, headquarters. Doing some late-night testing, this gold-painted and lightly camouflaged Honda sedan sports a couple of things we couldn’t see last week. First, the nose appears radically different here, and much more similar to the Honda Concept C shown earlier this year at the Beijing Auto Show. It also goes against our impression of last week’s photo, which didn’t appear to have any of the “jowls” of the Accord Coupe Concept or the Crosstour Concept, both of which were shown at U.S. auto shows earlier this year.

So what gives? Two possible explanations. First, the car shown here is clearly a plug-in prototype, judging from the extra “fuel” door on the front left fender. So it’s possible that Honda will be giving its plug-in model more radical styling than the standard gasoline-powered models, similar to how competitor Hyundai saved its cooler styling for the Sonata Hybrid. The other explanation is that Honda simply had an older-style nose on the car from last week, in an effort to throw off spy photographers.

Either way, we’ll get a closer look at the 2013 Honda Accord in a few months when the car is officially revealed for the first time.

Hmmm, for those that don't know, Honda has accelerated their Mid-Model Life change on the redesigned Honda Civic due to panning of the car (Consumer Reports).....

"TOV reader Chad Davis sent this photo to us last night. The subject car was spotted in Ohio, and as you can see it's wearing one of Honda R&D's license plates, it's definitely a Civic, and it's taped up as if to hide something. This naturally leads one to conclude that we could be getting an early look at the hastily revised 9th generation Civic, which is due for the 2013 model year.

Hopefully we will get some more shots from different angles so we can see what's going on.

2014 Acura MDX spied for the first time

Our spies have snapped the first pictures of the 2014 Acura MDX.

Caught heavily disguised, the model appears to have an evolutionary front fascia with a prominent grille and larger air intakes. There's also a dual exhaust system and five-spoke alloy wheels.

Engine options remain a mystery, but speculation suggests the crossover could be equipped with a 3.5-liter V6. It will likely be connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and an optional hybrid SH-AWD system.

MotorTrend: 2012 Euro Honda Civic 5dr HB Spied

Whether or not the looks of the 2012 Honda Civic sedan and coupe do anything for you, if you’re a Honda fan, you’ve probably coveted the not-for-U.S.-consumption hatchback model at some point or another. While Europe got three- and five-door versions of the last-generation Civic, a hatchback hasn’t been offered in the U.S. since the seventh-generation Civic Si ended production. Even if that doesn’t change with the current generation, our spy photographer has snapped some shots of the 2012 Civic five-door hatch that, for some, might make the grass look a bit greener on the other side of the pond.

When we last saw it, the 2012 Civic hatch was covered from nose to tail with camo, making it difficult to pick out any clear details. Now, much of the camo has been removed, revealing body panels and more of the car’s overall shape. The headlights appear to have the same shape as those of the sedan and coupe, but as the last-generation European Civic hatch featured a unique front end, this test mule could be hiding a different grille design.

With the camo on, the rear end bears a slight resemblance to that of the BMW 3 Series GT we caught testing last month, with an almost sedan-like notch in the back. This suggests that the model might continue the styling theme of the previous generation, which had a step carved into the hatch simulating the appearance of a rear wing. Still, it could also be fake bodywork added to throw us off the scent. As we noticed previously, the taillights appear to have shifted further up the C-pillar and into the corners, possibly spreading out vertically rather than horizontally as on the last generation. One of the test mules also appears to sport a glass roof, possibly an option that will be available for European hatchback models.

While there’s no official word on whether or not a Type R badge will ever grace the backside of this model, it would be the more likely candidate for Honda’s performance compact, as the three-door model was chosen as the basis for the last-generation Civic Type R. As with the previous generation, you can expect drivetrain options to mirror what’s available here in the States – perhaps with the exception of a few Europe-only engines, likely to include one or two diesel offerings.

Although the hatchback version of the Civic has been enjoyed by almost every other market except the U.S. in recent years, Honda hasn’t specifically shot down the notion of it coming here this time around. Then again, Honda hasn’t had much to say about it at all. What do you think? Should Honda add the hatchback model to its U.S. lineup?

"While Honda may have to delay rolling out the successor to the current CR-V crossover, a shortage of parts resulting from the crisis in Japan doesn't mean it isn't still working on the project. And while we hadn't seen any prototypes running before, we've now received our first glimpse.

The test mule in this solitary spy shot is wearing a bra over the front end and some taping around the hind quarters, but is otherwise fairly naked for all to see. So what are we looking at? Heavily revised styling for a start, with tail-lights that extend up the D-pillar like the current model but with a rather Volvo-like shape to them. Our intrepid auto spies also suggest the extended rear end could be making room for a third row of seats (wonder what that D-pillar tape job is hiding?), but from where we sit, it looks mighty cramped.

Beyond the design, we can expect a slightly more powerful and more efficient version of the current model's 2.4-liter VTEC four. Expect production to begin in Ohio and Ontario before winter rolls back around."

2012 Honda Pilot Spyshot

The grille on the current Pilot has never been popular, but we've just spied a prototype that shows Honda will be trying a new design.

Honda's midcycle change on the Pilot looks to consist of a new grille, new front bumper and a new lower fascia. In back, there appears to be modest changes to the rear bumper and the towing setup.

Inside, it appears that Honda has a major change planned for the center stack. Watch for the official debut in the first quarter of this year.

Spy Shots: 2012 Honda Civic prototype holds on to two-tier dash

This is definately a 'Evolutionary' bodystyle change, smart to not try and reinvent the wheel on this one....
After seeing a handful of spy shots of the next-generation Euro-spec Honda Civic, the North American car is finally starting to show up out roaming the heat-soaked roads of Death Valley. When the new Civic arrives next year, it won't be that much larger than the current car, and the overall shape looks to have stayed the same, though substantial changes to the front and rear fascias are definitely on deck.

Our spies were able to get a peek inside the Civic's cabin, showing that the two-tiered dash theme from the current car will likely be carried over to the new Civic. This means we can expect a digital speedometer on the top shelf with an analog tach below, and while we've never been big fans of this arrangement, it has its adherents among Civic fans.We're not expecting to see the Civic debut until sometime in 2011, possibly at the Detroit or New York auto shows. For now, check out Honda's latest prototype from all angles in our gallery below.

"The 9th generation Honda Civic has just begun testing in the desert and we've been shooting photos of a prototype all day!

Originally, the 9th gen Civic was set to debut in the Summer of 2010 as a 2011 model, but once CAFE regulations changed and the auto industry hit hard times in 2009, Honda had to rethink things. Rumors stated Honda originally wanted to make the Civic larger, but as you can see from the photos, the overall size of the 2012 Civic will remain largely unchanged.

While the camouflage is pretty heavy, we can see peeks at a new grille and headlights. The front end looks more upright overall as well. The doors also have some fresh character lines.

While the current Civic has a 1.8L 4-cylinder, rumors are floating around that the base motor may get bumped to 2.0L.

Thankfully, we hear the "Si" models will continue. Watch for production of the new Civic to start in the Spring or Summer of 2011.

American Honda Civic Sedan spied for the first time

Hmmmmm.....

Just a few weeks ago spies caught the next-generation European Honda Civic 5-door testing near the Nürburgring. This time the sedan version which is slated for the American market was caught.

Looking pretty close to an alleged leaked image, the sedan has been an icon of practicality and reliability. However, newcomers such as the Hyundai Elantra and Suzuki Kizashi have upped the ante with dramatic styling, and that's not good for this ninth generation Civic as it looks quite drab, even in prototype form.

The next-generation Honda Civic is due next year and will debut as a 2012 model.

I gotta say, this WoodysCarSite.com has been a awesome site, great find if this is indeed the direction Honda is going....
Subtle changes upfront, but no major breakthrough for US/Asia version...

Size is suppose to shrink, maybe a tribute to the 4th generation model (1988-1991) which I think is perfect. Anything bigger, you might want to look at the Accord.

I just don't understand why every new generation model needs to get bigger???

2011 Honda CR-Z Hybrid Coupe: New Video Shots of Production Model

Continuing the saga of leaks, new photos of the production version of Honda's hotly anticipated 2011 (or 2010, depends on the market) CR-Z hybrid coupe have made their way onto the web. This time, we have a series of screen shots from a video that we have yet to discover. In JDM spec, the 21st century CR-X comes with a hybrid powertrain that combines a 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol unit with an electric motor.

According to the official brochure that was leaked earlier this month, the petrol unit makes 114ps (84kW or 113 HP) at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 145Nm (107 lb-ft) at 4,800 rpm, while the electric motor, 14ps (10kW or 13.4 HP) at 1,500 rpm and 78Nm (58 lb-ft) at 1,000 rpm.


It doesn't sound much, but at least customers will have the option of a six-speed manual transmission in addition to the more traditional for a hybrid model, CVT.

The Japanese version of the CR-Z is said to accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h (62mph) in an uninspiring 9.7 seconds.

In the leaked leaflet, Honda mentions that the CR-Z will return 25.0 km/lt (58.8mpg US or 4.0 lt/100km) and 22.5 km/lt (52.9 mpg US or 4.5 lt/100km), but as we noted then, we are not sure what the numbers refer to.

Japan will first be the first market to receive the production version of the CR-Z in February 2010, with Europe and North America to follow later in the year.
