Spied: 2014 Chevrolet Impala Eco Gains A Volt-Like Grille

Wow, much better....
General Motors hasn’t shied away from the fact that the new 2014 Chevrolet Impala will be offered in mild-hybrid guise — in fact, it said as much when the car was unveiled at the 2012 New York Auto Show. It hasn’t, however, actually shown us an Impala so equipped. No worries: our spy photographer caught pre-production prototypes running around wearing virtually no camouflage.

So, what’s changed? Very little, though we do spy some slight revisions applied to the 2014 Impala’s nose. This particular tester wears brightwork and LED driving lamps once promised for the high-end LTZ trim level. Without a doubt, the biggest modification is the grille: the 2014 Impala’s Camaro-esque, three-bar grille is eschewed in favor of a large, solid insert that tapers towards the bowtie emblem, restricting airflow to two slender openings. It’s vaguely reminiscent of Chevy’s flagship hybrid – the Volt – but likely functions as an aerodynamic aid in the name of further improving the 2014 Chevrolet Impala’s fuel economy.

Chevrolet has said the mild-hybrid 2014 Impala – which will likely wear the same Eco name and badging as the midsize Malibu sedan fitted with the same system – will pair a 182-hp, 2.4-liter I-4 with a belt-driven electric motor/generator. The system cannot propel the car purely on electric power; it does provide up to a 15 hp/ 79 lb-ft boost under hard acceleration, and does allow the engine to shut off when the vehicle is stopped.

EPA figures are still forthcoming, but Chevy’s gunning for a 35-mpg highway rating in order to best many of the 2014 Impala’s competitors. Impossible? Probably not, since the Buick LaCrosse e-Assist – which shares its platform, wheelbase, powertrain with the 2014 Impala, and boasts a similar curb weight – returns 36 mpg on the EPA’s highway test cycle.

Expect further details on the 2014 Chevrolet Impala Eco, along with the remainder of the new 2014 Chevrolet Impala family, to emerge closer to the car’s official market launch in early 2013.

2013 Chevrolet Impala Imagined by Casey/Art and Colour

I've got to say, this looks really good....
"2013 Impala—The next large Chevy sedan will be based on the same architecture as the new Cadillac XTS. I've created a Chevy version of that car, and I'm guessing it's pretty close to the real deal. I've used classic Impala logos and wheels, as well as very 1961-like Chevy lettering on the hood. Compared with the XTS, I've simplified the bodysides and given it a late-model Impala greenhouse, as well as smoothing out the trunk shape."

Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Not Due Until 2012

Nice....As it turned out you are going to have to wait another year for the Camaro Z28, but at least it’s confirmed now! Camaro5 has apparently got the hold of some documents from a National Chevrolet Dealer’s meeting, where among many things, they’ve confirmed January 1, 2012 as the day for Z28′s production to begin.

The baddest Camaro of them all will come as both coupe and convertible variants and will have huge power output in the neighborhood of 550 hp thanks to its 6.2 liter supercharged V8. Other things regarding Camaro Z28 confirmed at the meeting include (direct quote from Camaro5):
Production begins January 1, 2012

Internally referred to as the “HP Edition” model (it was not actually referred to as “Z28? during the meeting)

-6.2L supercharged engine
-Magnetic Ride suspension
-285F / 330R tires
-Hood design to have louvre/slat design seen in spy photos (dealers in attendance were shown a gray Z28 model)
-Slight (not major) updates to the interior, with some brighter trimwork

SEMA: HPP Comes up with its own Trans-Am Camaro kit

Nice!
The last time we heard from Heide Performance Products (HPP), the Michigan-based tuner showcased a Daytona conversion for Dodge's Challenger. Keeping with the vintage theme, HPP is now ready to show its next pony car conversion - a Camaro-based Trans-Am kit - at this year's SEMA show in Vegas.

As with all the other Firebird body kits out there (Lingenfelter's, ASC's, etc), HPP's version does its best to bring back the good-ol' days of the screaming chicken. The results, as with any "we're selling you memories" conversion, vary.

Regarding the proposition of selling this conversion (for anything other than the collectability factor), I don't see a point. Pontiac is D-E-A-D, it's not coming back, and that means anyone's "new" Trans-Am will forever be a Chevy wearing a costume. It's similar to having a Plymouth nameplate on a modern Chrysler or Dodge; the vintage naming works for the Daytona, but not for the Superbird.

Alongside HPP's Trans-Am will be a body kit for the Camaro that helps give Chevy's kinda-sorta-dated sports coupe some extra flair. Also, HPP will have a Camaro wearing an HPP T-Top kit, too. Expect more info, including pics, pricing, and power, as it becomes available.

RBM Camaro to muscle into SEMA 2010

I think I just drooled all over my keyboard.... this looks so hot....
Graphic artist Jon Sibal designed this Camaro for RBM - one of 5 of his designs which will make it to the SEMA 2010

Thanks to graphic artist Jon Sibal for his BMW M3 DTM rendering yesterday which gave us an idea of what BMW's return to that racing series may look like.

Now, this 2010 Chevy Camaro for Raging Bull Marketing is a model that Sibal has designed himself. It is one of 5 from the automotive designer that will be making it to the 2010 SEMA show in Las Vegas next month.

Martinez, California-based Raging Bull Marketing (RBM) was so impressed with Sibal's rendering of a Camaro XS that they commissioned him to design this special RBM 2010 Chevrolet Camaro.

The new look features a two-tone paint finish, new front bumper with widebody fenders, widebody quarter panels, original side skirts, vented bonnet, a rear spoiler, 3-piece wheels with a large brake kit and a lowered suspension.

GM is running a poll on its Facebook page for visitors to vote on their favorite custom Chevy Camaro or Silverado HD model that will be displayed at the SEMA show.
Our vote is with Jon Sibal. You too can place your vote here!

SMS Supercars shows off first photos of its new 620 Camaro

This is a really nice looking car....
Steve Saleen is continuing his foray into building specialty cars other than Mustangs, and after launching the production of its 570 and 570X Challenger last year, his new company, SMS Supercars, has started the new year off right by releasing the first images of the upcoming 620 Camaro.

Using the SS model with the 6.2-liter V8 as a starting platform, the SMS 620 Camaro features much of the same design elements as the Challenger including the side induction hood, five-spoke wheels, and Alcantara and leather seats. Power is increased via an SMS supercharger system that boosts the LS3 V8 to 575 horsepower and 600 pound-feet torque. Like the Challenger, an "X" model is also available that includes additional engine modifications good for 715 hp and 700 lb-ft torque as well as upgraded suspension, brakes, differential, and wheels.

Like the SMS 460 Mustang, the 620 Camaro is currently only in illustrated form, but the production version should be ready sometime in the second quarter of 2010.

Corvette C6.BlackforceOne, by German tuners Loma Performance

This is one Bada$$ vette....
Germans from Loma Performance have unveiled a tunned Corvette C6, with a particulary dark look and mean specs. Dubbed the “BlackForceOnce”, this mean machine is one of the best tunes we’ve seen this year, both when it comes to the design and the monster under the hood. With hopes that the name will spark no racism debate, we continue the article on the BlackForceOnce Corvette by Loma Performance…

The inspiration is not not a bad choice. I mean, Nike did it and no one pointed at them “You’re lame!”, did they? (I mean the Air Force 1 Nike sportsshoes, killers btw google them if you wish..). We don’t know if this one will carry any President (thought I’d like to see some of their faces at 200 mph), like the Air Force 1, but we know for sure anyone driving it will feel Royal. The base model Corvette C6 (hot trivia: Introduced in 2005, it is the first Corvette to contain exposed headlamps since the C1 generation, which was produced until 1962) was pumped and redisigned to becom a true Force One on wheels… a Black Force One!

Force One cause the engine was twin-turbocharged to gush out some 783 horsepower (794 PS), from the basic C6, out of which real engine-reaching power is 666 hp (675 PS). Coincidence or not, this makes the car even more interesting… You reach 62 mph / 100 kmh in 3.4 seconds, making it one hell of a fast car. Top speed 205 mph (330 km/h). But could the standard-body of the Corvette stand this fury? We don’t want to find out nor do we need too as Loma Performance offers in the BlackForceOne: carbon-ceramic discs on stock brakes, suspension, wheels, tires, exhaust and the entire drivetrain redone with newer better materials. Sport tires from Michelin Sport Cup that are 275/30R19 in front and 335/25R20 out back have been mounted on the BlackForceOne. They’re mounted on 10 x 19 and 12 x 20-inch shining black OZ Racing Ultraleggera HLT alloy wheels. More can be read in the Press Release, down after the Photo Gallery of the BlackForceOne.

The exterior is what you’d expect from some crazy Euros messing around with a Corvette. The car was widened from 179cm to more than two meters at the rear, to make it more Bat-mobile looking. You can choose from three matte paint finishes, all looking devilish though I must admit I prefer the black one. Take a look at the photo gallery and decide for yourself.

Price for all-included full-house extra-topping is a bit under 200K Euros. No comments here…
Well, till the C7 appears, this is probably the hottest Corvette on Earth. Only 25 C6.BlackForceOnes will be designed, so if you think you should have one contact the guys over at Loma Performance right away. The BlackForceOne debuts officialy at the Essen Motor Show.

Trans Am Conversion Kit Coming for Camaro

Yes!
So... as of January 1, 2010, Pontiac is dead. Buried. Gone forever. No more. Obviously, something as pesky as death ain't going to stop hard core Trans Am fanatics from driving an (almost) honest to goodness 2010 Pontiac Trans Am and/or Firebird. Why? If you have to ask... you bring up a good point. Especially because when you get right down to it, the Trans Am was rarely anything other than a Chevy Camaro with different sheet metal.

Keeping that in mind, Trans Am Depot will be offering body kits that will transform (lowly) Camaros into full-on screamin' chicken Trans Ams! Based off Kevin Morgan's original design(s), the Phoenix Trans Am kits will be unveiled at the 2009 Trans Am Nationals. And then you'll have the chance to own a Trans Am that costs more than a Camaro but is just as fast. Hey – just sayin'. Fully detailed press release after the jump.
