Woodyscarsite: What would the Avengers 'one-of' look like in production form?

Last week we saw the new Avengers movie Acura Supercar. Acura has said that this is going to be a one of made specifically for the movie and www.woodyscarsite.com managed to get a hold of an illustration as to what the car could look like if it were under production. I've got to say, looks nice!

2010 Acura NSX to Live as Super GT Racer - Road Car Plans Still Dead

Acura's NSX supercar may rise from the dead to compete in the Super GT racing series.

According to InsideLine, Acura circumvented Super GT Series homologation rules that require race cars be based on a production vehicle. They did this by using another rule which allows production ready (but not currently in production) cars to be entered into the series. The trick appears to have worked, as series officials (the Japan Automobile Federation) have given the NSX the green light.

While details are limited, the race car is expected to be virtually identical to the production NSX that was killed off late last year. However, the NSX racer will reportedly use a 3.4-liter V8 instead of a 5.0-liter V10 which was expected in the production model.

Look for more information to be released when the 2010 racing season starts up.

New Honda NSX race car

A newly-built Honda NSX race car will compete in this weekend’s Britcar race at Brands Hatch.
The unique NSX has been built to comply with the Britcar Production regulations and it successfully completed its shakedown at Snetterton last week.

The car has been prepared by Colchester-based John Danby Racing and it will be driven in the two races on 7 November, one of which is at night, by Vicki Butler-Henderson, James Barclay and David Fenn.

John Danby, team principal, said: “The uniqueness and advanced technology involved in this project presented several new challenges and we are pleased to debut this exciting car at the last event of the 2009 season.”

Features over the standard car include upgraded brakes, dampers and tyres, while engine control and data-logging capabilities including GPS, Fly by Wire and live feed video also feature.
Last week, Honda announced it was axing its iconic NSX from the Japanese Super GT championship after 13 years of competing.

During its time racing in the series - Japan's top class for GT cars - the NSX-GT has won the driver and team championships, in 2000 and 2007. The car has also sat on pole 49 times and won 36 races.

Acura: Old NSX Was “Too High a Halo,” Next Sports Car to Be Less Ambitious

The on-again, off-again next-generation Acura NSX sports car is pretty much off for good, at least as we have come to expect it. The low-slung, mid-engined, quasi-exotic sports car that Acura built all through the ‘90s and into a good part of the this millennium was expected to become a front-engine GT with extreme styling in its next iteration, but alas, due to many factors, the car has been shelved.

But according to John Watts, Acura’s senior manager of product development, the prospect of an Acura sports car is not dead. It has just been scaled down. The NSX was “too high a halo,” said Watts. “For it to be fully effective [as a halo vehicle for the brand], it couldn’t be too far removed” from Acura’s other products. In other words, it would be less expensive than the NSX—which was expected to have an MSRP approaching six figures—and probably derived from a current product platform. That’s bad news for those who got attached to the concept of a Honda-built exotic sports car, good news for Nissan, whose GT-R won’t be facing a Honda-built rival any time soon. We are intrigued, however, by what kind of sports car Honda can build in the $50K–$60K range.

Next Gen Acura NSX Rendition

Here's a picture that I don't remember seeing before on the proposed Next Generation Acura/Honda NSX, which is now rumoured to be a V6 Hybrid. So, I thought I'd pass it on....

2010 NSX Super GT Rendering by jonsibal.com

Jon Sibal is slowly gaining a reputation in automotive enthusaist circles for creating some quite superb renderings. We have seen somne excellent renditions of the Aston Martin one-77 and Mclaren SLR Speedster in the past. Now comes his latest venture in the form of the Honda/Acura NSX Super GT, a rendering that touches the world of motorsport.
The racecar begins with a width enhancing bodykit, featuring a huge rear wing and aggressive road hugging front end. A green and white livery catches the eye very well and the clever addition of sponsors on the side result in a realistic end result.
The regular NSX roadcar is currently under development by Honda and is due to hit the market sometime in 2010 it will compete with the likes of the Porsche 911 Turbo, Ferrari F430 and Lamborghini Gallardo. Power will come from a powerful V10 engine placed in the mid-front position of the car, a power output of around 450hp has been suggested.

Next Acura NSX to have more Performance than the GT-R (and cost more too!)

While Honda doesn’t seem to be a fan of V8s, a V10 is a whole different story. According to the company’s Executive Vice President Koichi Kondo, the V10 powered NSX is on the way and Honda will do all it can to make it the best sports car in its category.

This sort of discussion was made between the American Honda people and r&d people, and some people were questioning whether it’s really necessary to have a V-10,” Kondo said in an interview with Automotive News. “But sports is a special category. We said if we’re going to do it, we’re going to go to the extreme.”

Kondo said that Honda is expecting to sell 1,000 units of the NSX in the U.S. annually. The NSX is rumored to carry a price tag of $160,000 when it debuts as a 2011 model year.

Kondo says that while the price tag may be well above the NSX’s $70,000 Nissan GT-R rival, it will also have better performance.

Next Gen NSX may be Limited to Acura Markets Only

The last NSX, discontinued in 2005, was branded as both a Honda and an Acura, depending upon the market it was sold in. That could change for the next-generation NSX, however, as Acura may be seeking to protect the brand identity of the halo sports car, and thereby its ability to charge a premium price. An unfortunate side effect for much of the world, however, is that the car would not be sold in markets where Acura doesn't do business.Currently, the U.S., Canada, Hong Kong, Mexico, China and soon, Russia, are the only markets that get Acura-branded cars.

The company is planning on introducing the brand to Japan in 2010 or after, and the use of the NSX as a halo vehicle to lure buyers and establish its credibility as a real step up from Honda may be exactly what it needs. But that will still leave the majority of the world, including Australia, the UK, and all of the countries in Europe, without Acura or the NSX, according to latest reports. Speaking with GoAuto, Honda spokesman Fumihiko Ike ruled out bringing Acura to Australia, and along the way, he mentioned that the NSX would not be coming either, declaring that the two are inextricably linked.

“Internally we are trying to harmonize the policy because NSX is exclusively for Acura brand. But now we are not bringing Acura brand to Asia, maybe very strong resistance from U.S. people that we put the [Honda badge] on the NSX, that is going to dilute the image of Acura, so that is a big dilemma for us,” Ike said.“We initiated the Acura brand for the sake of the U.S. market and how to rebuild the Acura brand in the U.S. that is our priority, so maybe we have to sacrifice (NSX availability in other markets) but we have to be patient,” he added.Keeping the NSX out of so many markets may be the best thing for U.S. perception of the Acura brand, but the impact it could have on the NSX itself, not being available in the home of so many of the world's greatest sports cars - Europe - is a significant consideration - especially when the company is directly targeting those European greats.

Perhaps that is what Ike was speaking of when he mentioned patience, though only time will tell what strategy Honda adopts for its newest NSX, and the wait will likely require a great deal of patience, since the car isn't expected to arrive until 2010.The NSX has already had a very troubled birthing process, as designers deliberated over the car's appearance, which was at first expected to closely follow the Acura Advanced Sports Car concept, eventually scrapping their work and starting over part way through - though the spy shots and renderings indicate it won't stray far from the concept's lines. Brand issues delayed the car the year before, but now that several prototypes have been spotted testing on the Nurburgring, it is believed that final development is underway, and on schedule to meet the 2010 deadline.

Even More Acura NSX Renderings

A Temple of VTEC reader, 'ciwai', worked hard to try and take the camo off of the car, here's what they've come up with.

Another NSX Rendering

Stumbled across this pic, one of a few floating around.

Here are the others that I have accumalated in another post;

Next Honda/Acura NSX Looking to Reclaim it's Title as Japan's SUPERCAR

This is the NSX caught on the track with camo just recently
This is an older rendering on what the NSX might look like.
This is a pic out of a Japanese car MagX. (I think this is the most accurate pic.)
This is an older NSX, absolutley beautiful.

The next NSX is expected for the 2011 model year, but the prototype has already hit the track at Nürburgring, Germany, and it has one aim, to be faster than the Nissan GT-R and the upcoming Lexus LF-A.
It's a tall order, and one that Honda hopes it can achieve through the use of a 5.5-liter V10 expected to make 550 horses, with a torque peak expected to top 420 pound-feet. The engine is essentially a slightly larger version of the V8 that Honda will use for the next-generation, rear-wheel-drive RL sedan, and it will use cylinder deactivation under light loads for maximum efficiency. Additional gains will come from the use of an eight-speed, paddle-shifted automatic.
Getting the power to the ground will be a modified version of Honda's Super-Handling All-Wheel-Drive (SH-AWD) system. Packaging could be tight, however, as this NSX will place its V10 up front. A combination of steel and aluminum will be used for the chassis that will form the basis of this 2+2 sports car.
