Carscoop!: Subaru BRZ Black Edition by Prova from the Tokyo Auto Salon [Video]

I have got to say this is one gorgeous car....

Prova, one of the more notable Subaru tuners in the Land of the Rising Sun, teamed up with the Japanese automaker to display a bespoke edition of the new BRZ sports coupe at this past weekend's 2012 Tokyo Auto Salon.

The BRZ Black Edition is supposed to be a more mature tuning take on the rear-wheel drive model that goes on sale worldwide this spring.

The package combines a blacked out body with orange pinstriping and a styling kit that includes a front lip spoiler, side skirts, a different rear diffuser and a (not so mature…) massive rear wing, along with new 19-inch alloy wheels from Enkei shod in beefier rubber.

A high-performance braking system and a sports exhaust system with central mounted tail pipes plus body hugging Recaro bucket seats and a new audio system inside round out the changes on the Black Edition showcar.

Neither Prova nor Subaru said if they have any plans to produce the BRZ Black Edition.

Takeros Honda Fit Turbo Gets Wide and Wild: 2012 Tokyo Auto Salon

By Colum Wood of Autoguide

Known for modifying wagons like the Honda Odyssey and Nisaan Stegea, Japanese tuner Takero’s recently expanded its product offering to include the Honda Fit – with impressive results. First came aerodynamic components, followed by suspension parts, now Takero’s has revealed a wide body kit for the Fit at the Tokyo Auto Salon, plus a turbocharger setup.

Head-on the Takero’s Fit still looks impressive, but the widebody sub-compact looks a little absurd from any other angle. The obvious advantage, however, is the ability to fit wider tires for more grip, with some massive 225/35/18 rubber on this machine. And that extra tire is no doubt necessary to help put down the extra power generated by the new turbocharger setup. Unfortunately, Takero’s hasn’t released any specs on the kit, but we’d expect something close to the 180 hp mark.

Honda Shows 2012 Tokyo Auto Salon the Flash Box, the Freed Wa, the Freed Spike Transporter and the Beat Auto Salon Special.

by By Paul Lienert, Inside Line

Just the Facts:
-At the 2012 Tokyo Auto Salon, Honda is showing a variety of customized and "accessorized" vehicles for the Japanese market.
-Honda's TAS display includes the Flash Box, the Freed Wa, the Freed Spike -Transporter and the Beat Auto Salon Special.
-The auto salon is Japan's answer to SEMA.

TOKYO — Honda is having a rollicking good time at this year's 2012 Tokyo Auto Salon, with the outrageously outfitted Flash Box and the delightfully named Freed Wa and Freed Spike Transporter.

The Tokyo auto salon, which is basically Japan's answer to the annual SEMA show in Las Vegas, runs this weekend, featuring a wild mix of production, concept, tuner, racing, prototype, customized and "accessorized" vehicles.

Honda said its display was designed to "present an exciting variety of approaches to customization while conveying the joy of mobility and the appeal of motor sports."

The Honda stand features the Flash Box, which is based on the new N Box Custom minicar that was released in December in Japan. The Flash Box gets custom paint and employs LEDs and reflective decals to adorn the exterior and interior of the boxy hatchback.

The Freed Wa — wa refers to traditional Japanese culture — is based on the Freed Hybrid compact minivan and showcases a lacquered exterior with a four-seasons interior motif.
Honda Racing has created another Freed spin-off, the Freed Spike Transporter, which was designed to haul off-road motorcycles.

Finally, an Auto Salon special edition of Honda's now-defunct Beat micro-roadster wears a special lower skirt and a custom paint job.

Inside Line says: The Japanese love their custom cars — the wilder, the better.

Honda at Tokyo Auto Salon 2012

Honda has announced plans to introduce a number of customized vehicles at the aftermarket focused Tokyo Auto Salon.

Showcased vehicles include customized versions of the all-new N BOX Custom minicar, which was revealed at the recent Tokyo Motor Show, Freed compact minivan and Beat models.

First up is the Flash Box which features special reflective decal sheets with embedded LEDs. It is used as a decorative element both inside and out. Although Honda has used this LED application conservatily, we can imagine how some attention seeking motorists could overuse it, considering some other LED products we have seen.

Another showcase vehicle is the Freed Wa which is based on the Freed Hybrid compact minivan. The Japanese word wa refers to traditional Japanese culture. Its exterior features the ancient Japanese art of lacquering, while flowers representing the four seasons are the theme of the interior design.

Other vehicles showcased are the Freed Spike Transporter, which loads two off-road motorcycles, and the Beat Auto Salon Special features genuine Beat accessories and special aerodynamic parts.

Lastly, as previously reported, a specially modified Honda CR-Z dubbed the TS-1X concept will appear along with the Sports Modulo NSX and the HSV-010 GT.

The Tokyo Auto Salon will be held from January 13 - 15 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan.

Papercraft Ninjas Print, Build Life-Size Cardboard NSX Race Car

Wow, the time and effort that would have gone into this is incredible.... Epson sounds like a awesome place to work, my papercrafts (airplanes) never get this much press and I'm always told to stop....
Epson employees took advantage of their papercraft skills and giant printers to build an impressively detailed 1:1 cardboard replica of an Acura/Honda NSX Super GT race car. Build photos of what we consider the sexiest recycling project ever.

The papercraft JDM Honda NSX debuted at this year's Tokyo Auto Salon back in January, but it crossed our radar again when Nerdwa pointed out some photos of the incredible construction process.

It's actually quite similar to the normal routing for building a papercraft car, albeit at a gigantic scale. The frame they build for the paper body is especially cool. If you're inspired by this and lack the time/printing capability to pull off a full-sized version, Epson posted a bunch of the 1:24 scale instructions right here.
