2013 Honda CR-V crossover to get the 1.6 Liter EarthDreams i-DTEC diesel engine from the Civic

The 2013 European spec Honda CR-V crossover has now been officially revealed after the Japanese automaker showcased the concept of the CR-V at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. The crossover, which features a few stylistic changes when compared to the American variant also gets different engine options in the form of two turbo diesel engines. While the 2.2 Liter i-DTEC diesel engine that does duty on the European models of the Civic and the Accord will continue to be offered right from the launch of this crossover in October 2012, the crossover will also get a 1.6 Liter i-DTEC diesel engine.

However, the 1.6 Liter- i-DTEC turbo diesel engine, unveiled a while ago to power the new Civic sedan, will be available only on front wheel drive models of the CR-V as an entry level diesel variant. This potentially indicates that the specs of the 1.6 Liter diesel engine, at 118 Bhp-300 Nm could remain pretty much unchanged. The petrol engine to power the CR-V will remain the 2 Liter i-VTEC mill. The CR-V will be available in front wheel drive guise along with this petrol engine too while the four wheel drive option will be standard on the top end variants of this crossover.

The 2012 Honda CR-V crossover features improved interiors and styling but comes with the same 5 seat capacity as the previous model. In due course of time, the CR-V is expected to be launched in India as well. Currently, the CR-V is imported into India as a completely built unit. This has resulted in the cost of the 5 seat crossover shoot up by quite a bit when compared to the likes of the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour SUVs, both of which offer 7 seats apart from being powered by turbo diesel power. The  Indian CR-V however has to make do with the 2.4 iter i-VTEC petrol engine, leading to sales being very slow.

That said, the Honda CR-V enjoys a dedicated fan following in India with many owners floored by the crossover’s car like handling despite a high ground clearance rivaling that of an SUV. In fact, the Honda CR-V was one of the first crossovers to be launched in India. In the best couple of years, the 2013 CR-V is expected to be launched in India, however with a diesel engine under the hood. That perhaps is the only way Honda can do justice to the good sales potential of this crossover, which currently is badly impaired by the lack of a turbo diesel engine option.

Honda UK launches Curiosity Documentary Ad Campaign

In the same way that documentaries dissect their subjects in order to provide a more complete view of the whole, a new series of Honda ads each hone in on a single feature of the auto company’s latest models.

As sponsors of Channel 4's Documentaries, Honda has launched this new TV campaign, created by Wieden + Kennedy London, which links brand and programming together. The tagline "The More We Look, The More We Learn" could be applied to the documentaries themselves, or the ads/"idents" which use footage that looks as though it came from a documentary to illustrate features of several different Honda products.

The campaign also includes a new website developed and created by Collective London, which indulges the kind of curiosity that accompanies an interest in documentaries. On the website, users will find a game that’s played with a series of questions themed ‘How curious are you?’ The site will Channel 4 content throughout the year.

Honda scoops European Excellence Award

Honda Motor Europe's crowd-sourced, social media activated film project, Live Every Litre, has been recognised by the European Excellence Awards hosted in Prague last week (9 December, 2010).

Short-listed in a total of three separate categories - Best Campaign, Social Media and Automotive and Transport - Live Every Litre was rewarded in the Automotive and Transport category.

Laura Price, Social Media Manager for Honda Motor Europe, said: "Live Every Litre gave those who consume media online the chance to do something unique and different. This was such an exciting project for Honda because the crowd sourced nature of the campaign allowed the online community, rather than us, to mould the final outcome thereby tearing up the rule book on traditional car launches."

Marc-Oliver Voigt, Communications Director and Chairman of the Jury for the European Excellence Awards, commented: "As one of only 58 winners from a field of over 1,450 projects, Live Every Litre has been recognised as one of the best projects in European public relations over the past year."

Live Every Litre is a social media activated, European road trip documentary project which encouraged people to submit their dream journey to http://www.liveeverylitre.com, where the public could rate their stories. The best journeys were chosen and the participants invited to join the pan-European odyssey, having their experiences recorded as they drove a new Honda CR-Z hybrid coupe on their trip of a lifetime. Over 1000 applications were received from 28 countries. Filming took place over 38 days, starting in the Netherlands, heading down through Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal and finishing at the infamous Nurburgring circuit in Germany.

All of the short films that introduce the cast and their individual stories can be viewed on http://www.liveeverylitre.com. Or join the conversation on www.facebook.com/liveeverylitre.
